The “Viewer’s Choice” winner at CoPA's 5th annual Midwest Juried Photo Exhibition is Hillary Quella with her piece entitled Communication Continuum. Congratulations Hillary!
The 2011 annual exhibition took place at the Walkers Point Center for the Arts and was juried by Chicago gallery owner, Catherine Edelman. The show consisted of 43 photographic pieces by 30 different photographers from all over the Midwest.
When asked to describe her work, Hillary stated, “I started off thinking that Communication Continuum was about discourse, debate, and discussion. Where does communication begin and end? In what direction and how far can it go? This image can be interpreted as flowing continuum of energy, beliefs, and spirit. We have the concept of both “one” and “many”. As the proverb says, “there is no difference between a drop of water and the ocean.” Nothing is solitary and independent in itself. I then started thinking about consciousness, which boggles my mind, and that started a new discussion: How on earth do we explain where consciousness comes from? This is where my mind wanders as I take in the restorative peace and eerie solitude of the night.”
Hillary won $100 in photography printing with CoPA sponsor Prime Digital Media in New Berlin, Wisconsin.
Thanks to all who attended and participated in this exhibition, and special thanks to CoPA sponsor Prime Digital Media for graciously donating the award.
