A group of photographers known as the “Signature Seven” will be displaying their artwork at the Horicon Marsh Education Center Monday July 2nd and continuing until August 31st.

What is a photographic signature style? It is a unique way of looking at and capturing the world with a camera.

The photographers collaborating on this exhibit came together through a photographic art class taught at the Center for Photography at Madison. The goal was to develop an individual “signature style” that could be expressed in a body of work, such as a portfolio, an exhibit, or a book.

That’s what they’ve been doing for the past three years – establishing and refining their own signature styles. This exhibit, and subsequent book, is a testament to how they have come to apply thier individual styles to the subject of Wisconsin.

a juried exhibition at the Minneapolis Photo Center, open through Feburary 26, 2012.

CoPA member Paul Matzner's photograph “Wild Hair Day” was chosen
for Off the Cuff: The Spontaneous and Unrehearsed, a juried exhibition at the Minneapolis Photo Center.

On display through February 26, Off the Cuff features images by 70 photographers from across the U.S. that demonstrate the complex and varied roles photography employs as a witness and an accomplice in seeing the world. Relating to both the genres of street photography and performance art, these images may collectively portray chance encounters, improvisations, decisive moments in the height of action, and documents of occurrences. Without premeditation, the photographer captures what arises – acting as the mediator between the photograph and events as they unfold
