You are invited to the solo exhibit,  The New Global Women – Anchored in Tradition, Navigating the Future. This will be a return engagement for Milwaukee photographer Larry D’Attilio, whom you will remember from his last Tamarack exhibit: The Soul of Vietnam, last July of 2012. Larry has returned to Vietnam, continuing his exploration of the complex world of young women emerging from highly evolved yet rigid social/spiritual traditions into modern, sophisticated, cosmopolitan career women. Larry himself has evolved his own media traditions to express this complexity. Through Larry’s new abstractions, the struggles, fears, aspirations, and tensions of these women become palpable to us in ways far beyond what is possible with the simple portrait. These are very large prints, and utterly arresting in their impact.

Regarding Fog Induction, Coaty says "Lake freighters such as the Herbert C. Jackson near 700 feet in length and carry 25,000 tons of cargo throughout the Great Lakes waterway.  The Jackson hauls iron ore, grain, stone or coal.  Lakers dock in Sturgeon Bay for winter lay-up.  On this cold day, a loud noise of steam releasing from the Jackson caught my attention.  The fog and silhouette of men moved in and out with the wind.  I made this picture in black and white in reference to the many shipwrecks and loss of crew members on the Great Lakes and to the long lives of the vessels themselves."

A group of photographers known as the “Signature Seven” will be displaying their artwork at the Horicon Marsh Education Center Monday July 2nd and continuing until August 31st.

What is a photographic signature style? It is a unique way of looking at and capturing the world with a camera.

The photographers collaborating on this exhibit came together through a photographic art class taught at the Center for Photography at Madison. The goal was to develop an individual “signature style” that could be expressed in a body of work, such as a portfolio, an exhibit, or a book.

That’s what they’ve been doing for the past three years – establishing and refining their own signature styles. This exhibit, and subsequent book, is a testament to how they have come to apply thier individual styles to the subject of Wisconsin.
