Photographer Marcia Getto will exhibit her Wisconsin landscape, flower and bird images at the Horicon Marsh International Education Center from Saturday, April 28 through Friday, June 29, 2012.

Member photographer Martha Coaty will be CoPA's Featured Artist at the upcoming ART Milwaukee ART Jamboree on Saturday, May 19 at Milwaukee Athletic Club, 758 North Broadway. Coaty is an award winning fine art photographer currently living in Allouez, WI. Her photographs of houses and barns of Northern Wisconsin are geometrically precise, infused with a keen sense of stillness. She is a Wisconsin native and has practiced the art of photography for over thirty years.  Her body of work, “Door County and other Northern Places,” can be viewed at www.marthacoatyphotography.com.

CoPA is partnering with ART Milwaukee in 2012 to bring great photographs to the community at their ART Jamborees. With the help of other local organizations, these social experiences bring the work of featured artists to thousands each month at different locations throughout the city.


CoPA member and photography instructor Susan Lukas offers one-on-one classes to improve your photography by learning more about lighting, shutter speeds, and apertures, as well as the skills for taking better portraits.

Choose from sessions of four or eight classes.

Member photographer Ben Stuart was CoPA's Featured Artist at the ART Milwaukee ART Jamboree on Friday, March 9 at Milwaukee's City Hall, 200 E. Well Street. Stuart's captivating portraits of youth in traditional costumes our city's many ethnic festivals demonstrate Milwaukee's continuing commitment to honoring the heritage of those who built it.

Every Day is one of three new exhibitions that opened on December 2 at Portrait Society Gallery and running through January 14, 2012. The opening reception is Friday, December 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. It is also a Marshall Building open house night, with many of the galleries hosting receptions.

On Saturday, October 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., CoPA Board Member Coree Coppinger will lead Milwaukee photographers in the 4th Annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk.

Before William Mueller ever picks up his camera – or even thinks about it – months may have passed while an idea festers, words play in his head, and sets are built.

Bill’s brain children are born somewhere between sleep and dreaming, he half jokes in explaining the origin of his conceptual photographs. “I always keep a notebook handy for sketches and ideas. The same goes with my camera bag – always a notebook with me.”

A CoPA member since 2008, Bill has served two terms as a Board member,  vice president, and chair of the Exhibitions Committee.

He picked up a camera as a way to illustrate his writing as a teenager: the writing fell aside, but the photography stayed. Bill’s interests turned to conceptual photography about 10 years ago.

“I guess I’m a closet model maker although I did not make models as a kid,” Bill said in an email interview. “I collect things that trigger ideas that trigger an image title that triggers the final photograph.”

Photography marketing consultant, author and educator Mary Virginia Swanson will give CoPA’s annual lecture Saturday, Sept. 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in UWM Arts Lecture Room ACL120, located at 2400 E. Kenwood Avenue.

Bob Israel is CoPA’s new president, the group’s third since it was formed in 2004. He succeeds Robb Quinn, who held the presidency for three terms since 2008 and did not run for re-election.

The CoPA Board of Directors elected new officers for one-year terms at its monthly meeting May 31 at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Other officers elected are:

About 100 CoPA members spent more than 900 hours helping to stage this year’s 6th Annual Members Photography Exhibition.

Geri Laehn, chair of the Exhibitions Committee and coordinator of the five-week show, said, “Because of the duration and success of the show all the hard work and time put in by everyone was justified. We have a pretty great membership, and to all of those who volunteered to host, set up and take down, a huge thank you.”

Photographs by CoPA members Frank Miller and Coree Coppinger are featured in the Shepherd Express’ recently released 10th annual City Guide.

Frank’s photograph in the 2011 City Guide’s What’s New section is of a scene from the Optimist Theatre’s outdoor production of The Tempest at Alverno College. Coree’s image of children at play at Milwaukee’s Summerfest highlights the festival section of the City Guide.
