I began photographing in my teens. My earliest favorite themes were extremely detailed seascapes and forests using ultra fine grain film. For a long period, a recurring theme was a “glorification of the banal” inspired by one of my favorite photographers, Harry Callahan. When digital photography finally reached resolutions that permitted creating fine art photography prints, I adopted that medium exclusively. My current favorite themes are finding the overlooked details, patterns, and abstractions in everyday urban and landscape settings.
Exhibits
My favorite subject is the commonplace viewed in an uncommon way: an overlooked detail in a landscape or street, a fleeting occurrence of light and shadow, motion or stillness. Hidden patterns and abstractions are all around us, but we need to stop and look to find them. I contemplate the image I want to capture, so that you see what I first saw in the camera viewfinder. Without a lot of digital manipulation, I want to convey the message of what I saw and felt the moment that I found the image.
