Bio

Brian Jacobson grew up in the wilds of Wisconsin near Wind Lake. He spent half of his life in the country, half in the city, and has now returned in exile to the family estate as the current recession wiped him out. His formal training in photography consists of a 4-H course, two college electives, many books, and a lot of practice. Heroes include Alfred Stieglitz, Henri-Cartier Bresson, William Eggleston and Sally Mann. He is a founding member of the Coalition of Photographic Arts in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He currently works part-time as Photo Editor for ThirdCoast Digest, and finds that photojournalism is ruining the whole process for him.

Artist's Statement

We look at ourselves and others every day but what do we really see? With our heads affixed downward into gadgets, does anyone really take the time out to just observe anymore? I covet my people watching time and I’m rue to committing any one moment or expression to a photograph because it takes one moment into a context of singular emotion and meaning, whereas the deeper meaning is really only realized in fluid moments. Still—I would argue that a photograph remains the best way to remember the feel of an environment and the person frozen at a certain age that can never be regained.
