Artist's Statement

Artist Statement Jack Long, Photographic Artist Over the past 30 years as a practicing photographic artist I have had few opportunities to produce an image series that I felt as enthusiastic about as the images I have produced with this newly self discovered technique. My love for photographic arts and a knack for “tinkering” with mechanical technology has led me to create a unique series of images. I am pleased to present my Fluid Sculpture photos captured in a brief slice of time through photography. So often I have heard, “How?” as the first word of a question about the techniques I use to create my images. I would likely ask the same question, but in my opinion, it shouldn’t matter so much about the mystery as much as the aesthetic. It is the combination of beauty and wonder that I want to illustrate in my images. Somehow explaining the techniques, in effect pulling away the curtain of mystery would for me, lessen the impact my images produce. In short, I will not explain my techniques. In my opinion it should come down to really enjoying the image for it’s artistic impact and not a tutorial of how it was created. The one thing I can guarantee. You will not see anything like this anywhere, any time soon. Along with the unique look of my images, I have developed a special method of displaying them. This industrial/technical method of stretching a canvas photographic print onto extruded aluminum framing is, I believe the most appropriate artistic method of display. Jack Long
